Sports background: Played football, basketball, and baseball in HS. Lettered 3 years in HS baseball. Guarded the water bottles in football. Have coached HS football since 1997 and started coaching baseball in 1981 following HS graduation. Now I coach my youngest in both football and baseball.
Softball History: Started playing softball in college at Ohio State...coed, of course. Then moved onto the playing rec leagues, mostly for Rocky's Bar and a Jack Daniels Distributor. Got introduced to Police Softball by Sergeant Dave Clark of CPD in 1989. Met a bunch of great people at the tourneys.
Past Police Teams: CPD, Franklin County Metro, and now CPD Old-timers.
Proudest Police Softball Moments: Finishing 2nd in Nashville. Making the All-Tourney team in Dayton 06...Master's Division. Also, the first hit I ever got off of Sammy Sapienza. Always loved the intensity of the NY teams. Now my youngest loves watching NY and Jax play.
Lowest Softball Moment: When Paul Tulloch died. It was right before the JAX 1994 tournament. He wasn't the best player, but he was a great guy. Drank many a beer with him and our wives.
Future personal goals in Police Softball: I would like to see my boys play Police Softball. They have been to many of the tourneys. My youngest always buys a tourney shirt and has the officers sign it. He loves you guys. I hope that the interest expands so that these tourneys do not die out. It seems that the younger cops would rather play baseball or not play at all.
Where do you see our sport in 5-10 years: I hope to see it at its peak like in the 1980's and early 90's. Some of the fun seems to be missing. I remember Dayton having a huge party at the Convention Center with live music and plenty of Beer. It was great seeing all of the players and talking smack with them. Some of it seems to be missing. However, with this board and some of the PR we get, the Dayton Children's Hospital visit, I can see it getting more popular.
