PS.com Nick Hollywood or H-wood

Nickname (and story behind it) - I got the name Hollywood from the old timers on my patrol squad just after starting my career. We were in the news a lot because of shootings and other violence in our city, so the news crews would routinely come out and ride with us.. I would always seem to get picked to drive the news crews around, and would therefore always end up on TV... Hence, the name

Sports background - Everything except soccer (which I still refuse to call a sport... more of an activity !!!)

Softball History - Started playing when I started police work in 1985... Both city league and police league

Current Police Team - Concord Police Softball

Past Police Teams - I started with Solano CHP, which is now known as the Choir Boys.... Also played with BART PD (which is now Richmond PD)

Proudest Police Softball Moments - One of the very first tourneys I played with Concord Softball (in Elk Grove, CA) I was named all tourney MVP ( I batted 31 for 33).. Also, beating Del Pickney in the Tahoe pitching contest in 2005.....hahaha

Lowest Softball Moment - Our 2005 collapse in the Nevada Games. We go 5-0 in the round robin, taking out the previous year’s winner Forth Worth in the process... Then score a combined 8 runs in the next to games against LA Blue and Honolulu to go two-and-Q in the playoffs.

Future personal goals in Police Softball - Softball will take care of itself.. I want to establish friendships with other cops around the nation, just as I have been able to do with Swami, Del, Darin and some of the other So-Cal boys I now call friends...

Where do you see our sport in 5-10 years - The answer to this is dependent upon the answer above. I honestly believe that as we establish friendships around the nation, we will be more inclined to travel farther to play and see our buddies. This will in-turn make our division of softball more competitive, and could eventually lead our sport into national recognition.

What is on thing you would change about police softball - I would make it mandatory to have some type of party, event or other social gathering at every tournament. This would help promote not only personal relationships, but help us to bond into more of a brotherhood. I say this only because I sense a change in our profession, to more of a what’s in it for me attitude, rather than the we can succeed if we do it together teamwork that used to be prevalent in our profession.

Misc. Info - It is opportunities like this Police Softball website that make it possible for all of us around the nation to get to know each other better. Concord Softball (as long as I am still in charge) will always do what it can (from purchasing advertisements to gathering tourney, player and other event info) to support Del, Swami, Leo and all the others that keep this site up and running!!! And always remember... 'Like gravy on a biscuit... It 's all Good!!!'
