World Series IV Excites as Many Games are Decided in Last Inning    Oct 23, 2008
Alliance and NY Metro leave it all on the field in 38-37 game
This is the official Policesoftball.Com World Series IV report. The event was once again held at the Big League Dreams facility in Cathedral City, Ca. and it once again featured the 50 best teams in the law enforcement circuit. Every year the event has grown and drawn more national exposure and this year was no different. Easton Sports was the primary sponsor the event and Brett Helmer was on scene to rub elbows with the players and take in the action. Friday saw bracket play action for seeding purposes for the double elimination playoffs. On Friday night the opening ceremony took place and that included the presentation of Colors by the American Legion Honor Guard. The ceremonial first pitch was tossed by a collection of wives who represented all the wives & families who supported the players throughout the season and tolerated us acting like little leaguers for a few weekends this year.

Doug Cullen is Named East Coast Player of the Year!!!    Oct 13, 2008
The Jacksonville Player is the third player to receive this award.
The last two years have given us Donny Meyer and James Ruochhio as our East Coast Players of the Year. Those footsteps are hard to follow but we believe we have succeeded in finding a player who is just as deserving. His name is Doug Cullen of the Jacksonville Police Softball Club. Doug's name is synonymous with excellence. Doug has been playing injured all year due to an on duty traffic accident but even so, he has been named to two all-tournament teams. Even playing injured, Doug has lead the Jax team in defense all year playing second and third base. If you get the chance, watch a Jacksonville game this weekend or watch the All-Star game to see what a professional approach Doug brings to the field.

Mark Tolliver Wins Coveted West Coast Player of the Year Award!!!    Oct 12, 2008
Hard-Cor Pitcher Earns Award for His Outstanding 2008 Season!!!
Mark Tolliver of A-1 Towing/Hard-Cor is our 2008 West Coast Player of the Year. Mark has pitched Hard-Cor into the top of the West Coast standings over the last four years and he has pitched his teams to top 5 finishes in every tournament he has played in this year. Mark is fearless on the mound and will glove anything near him. As good as a pitcher Mark is, he is equally as strong of a hitter and will consistently hit in the .700s. Mark can hit for average, power and he can place the ball anywhere on the field.

Nate Baez Earns West Coast Defensive Player of the Year Award    Oct 11, 2008
Nate's ability at the 5 Man is regarded as one of the best in the game
There are very few players who you cannot take your eyes off of due to their exciting style of play. Nate Baez is one of those players. When Nate is playing 5 man, opposing batters are very aware of where he is and this is one thing that makes him so effective. Nate has always been one of the top infielders in the police game but this year Nate seems to have elevated his game to a new level. His defense has been a big key to the Alliance this season. Nate is a very heady player and he is constantly aware of the game situation and what he can do to best help the team on the field.

Jeff Graus Wins East Coast Defensive Player of the Year Award    Oct 10, 2008
Biscuit is Named First Ever East Coast Defensive Player of the Year
This year PoliceSoftball.com wanted to recognize the defensive players who rarely get the press the big offensive machines receive so from this point forward, we will name an East and West coast defensive player of the year. To win this award, you must be a difference maker on the field. Not just a player who is good with the glove, but a player who can affect the game. A great outfielder in a 4 man outfield can be a great player but it is hard for them to change the game. A great outfielder in a three man outfield that allows his team to drop that fourth outfielder into the infield is definitely a game changer. A great pitcher that drops a team averaging 20 runs a game to 15 runs a game is a game changer. An infielder that makes teams try to hit the ball away from them is a game changer. These are the difference makers we looked at when we came up with this award.

PoliceSoftball.com in conjunction with Dunham Manufacturing are proud to announce the PoliceSoftball.com Hall of Fame ring. The Hall of Fame ring may be purchased by any member of the Police Softball Hall of Fame. It is also a great gift for your Hall of Fame spouse, father or teammate. The ring shown has a year (2007) and a name (Wright). These portions of the ring may be changed to reflect your specific year of induction and name. This year and name were chosen as our sample to honor Shevy Wright who threw out the first pitch at our 2007 World Series. Stone color may also be changed to team color if you prefer. We chose the color blue to represent the thin blue line we are all a part of.

The Quake Rolls in the Desert Heat to Win the PSPOA Tourney    May 20, 2008
Robert Solis and Lowell Buck Lead the Quake to a Victory as they are named Co-MVP
36 teams descended on Palm Springs this weekend and with them came an early heat wave that brought temperatures upward of 110 degrees. The heat was fatiguing on the players as many teams only had 10-11 players. The heat also affected the game as runs were hard to come by in mid day and many teams never reached their allotted six home runs. This tournament was the first Boombah Gold Points tournament to be played in the West this year as the DEA tournament was rained out. With the only other West Gold tournament to be played in a few weeks in Manteca, these points meant a lot to West teams who are trying to earn a spot into the 2008 World Series.

Spots for the 2008 World Series are Announced.    Jan 01, 2008
This year the west will have to earn their way to the World Series
Team spots for the 2008 World Series will be done a little differently this year. Due to demand and field constraints, PoliceSoftball.com decided to change the way teams are granted spots for the 2008 World Series. Once again the cap will be 45 teams with a split of 23 East and 22 West. There will be 26 reserved spots providing these teams pay for the World Series by May 1st, 2008 (See Upcoming Tournament Section for details on how to pay for the World Series) As always, teams who do not pay by that date will relinquish their reserved spot. These 26 reserved spots were awarded for many reasons but the biggest factors were distance needed to travel to the World Series, team history, and support/involvement with PoliceSoftball.com. (Since travel considerations were given so much weight to this decision, most of the 26 reserved teams are from the East/Central United States)

Stanislaus County SO wins Small Market World Series    Oct 26, 2007
Stanislaus will play in the big one next year at the 2008 World Series
While the PoliceSoftball.com World Series was playing on Sunday, there was another battle going on that many did not see. This battle was among some teams that many may not know by name but their desire and talent are every bit as large as the teams playing in the WS. This year PoliceSoftball.com held its’ second annual Small Market World Series. The Small Market World Series is a separate tournament held in conjunction with the World Series where the winning team gets a chance to return the following year and play with the best teams in the nation.

The World Series will be changing the Adjoining State Rule for 2008    Oct 25, 2007
A roster data base will also be kept full time during the year
Looking to change teams next year? If so, please be aware of the new state rule for the 2008 World Series when making your decisions because the old adjoining state rule will be changed starting on 12-1-07. When the PoliceSoftball.com World Series began, we looked at the one state rule as used by the Dayton tournament. We really liked the one state rule because we felt it gave less chance for muliti state combo teams to develop which in our minds could eventually hurt the sport and lessen the amount of overall teams in the long run.
