Ohio Lawmen, Sac Police and RSD Red are todays profiled teams
Today PoliceSoftball.com will continue its feature series which will show a "Season Preview" on some of the off-season moves made by teams. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of the moves listed but we are confident we will get it right many more times than we get it wrong. Not every team will be featured. Only teams that contacted us with their updates or teams that received a lot of press on their personnel moves on the message board will be previewed. If you would like your team previewed, please send us an e mail prior to the end of the series. On each preview we have listed the teams final 2009 ranking and we have assigned each team an unofficial theme song which we feel reflects that team in some way. We hope you enjoy the work on this and we will be seeing you all soon at the fields.
OHIO LAWMEN
2009 Rank: 4
They finished 2nd at the World Series in 09. To date they have 1 World Series championship and 2 runner-up finishes. Now THAT is impressive. Rather than merely maintain their reputation for excellence Ohio went out and got better. Much better. The additions of Henry "Butch" Castor and Bobby McGhee add two legitimate superstars to a line-up loaded with superstars. They are the Ps.Com consensus projected #1 pick for the East going into the 2010 season. They have plenty of rivals but those rivals will have to ramp up more than ever if they want to take down Ohio and their legendary line-up. Well sponsored, well managed, loaded with talent…manager Brad Bowory needs to make some space on his mantle for all the trophies and hardware his team will be bringing home this year. Take that to the bank. 2010 Theme Song: “War Machine” by KISS.
SACRAMENTO POLICE SOFTBALL
2009 Rank: 8
08 was a banner year for these juggernauts. 09 was expected to be their break-thru year but injuries limited them and although they were strong, they did not live up to their personal expectations. Manager Ralph Knecht did not sit still this off-season. Honestly the team did not need much tweeking, they just needed to get healthy. But, Ralphie had been coveting a slick fielding middle infielder for a couple seasons and that player was Joe “JoJo” Johnson. This off-season Johnson became available and Ralph did not blink when given the opportunity to ink Johnson. Johnson and police softball legend Jeff Regino will form one of the most devastating double play combos in the nation. They have the pieces to the puzzle, if they can put it all together 2010 might find SPS on top of the West totem pole. 2010 Theme Song: “Can’t Touch This” by M.C. Hammer.
RSD RED
2009 Rank: 21
2010 brings new light to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Red Team (RSD- Red) They have a lot of new talent as their department has grown a lot in the past few years. They also have some old faces that have re-surfaced from the RSO-Black days. Big Paul Garcia, aka- Mighty Chewbacca was signed in the off-season and will play with Red this season. They will return all the players from last year, except one defector, who went to DEA Combo (Chad Howard). The team awaits the return of Ricky Valentine who is a staple at 3rd Base. He is coming back off a serious injury which kept him out of work, and they expect him back sometime in the early part of the season. Hard hitting Sonny Cortez, Josh Mead, and Kenny Dawley all return from the outfield as well as Omar Rodriguez, our long time starting 2nd baseman. Newcomer Art Ramirez will try his hand at SS and has been polishing his skills in the off season playing a lot of civilian ball. Bobby Faldetta, aka- Auto returns and his bat is a vital part of the early hitters in the line-up... Mario Martinez, Jesus Pimental, Fabian Granados, Rob Roggeveen and Pete Montenegro are four more big hitters returning from the 2009 team. RSD-Red expects to be highly competitive and plans on attending the majority of the west coast tourney's and would like to make at least one trip east of Las Vegas. They will be making their triumphant return to Lake Tahoe, as this was a favorite tournament from years past for them. RSD-Red can hit with any team on the circuit, and will work their butts off defensively to round out their game. RSD looks forward to seeing the rest of our family who play with other teams, as well as the rest of the LEO circuit. Their goal this season is to avoid injuries, finish in the top 15, and do some big team hunting along the way. All of these goals are very possible for this team. 2010 Theme Song: “With or Without You” By U2
