Nine year old Shevy Wright had one dream and that was to be a police officer. Sadly, Shevy was stricken with a brain tumor and his dream was never going to be a reality; or so he thought. In stepped Keith Benjamin and the Chandler Police Dept. After hearing of Shevy's dream, the Chandler Police Department swore Shevy in as a police officer. Shevy was fitted with a full uniform and badge and spent many days at the Chandler Police Department living his dream.
In 2007, Shevy Wright was recognized at the PoliceSoftball.com World Series where he was the guest of honor and he threw out the first pitch in front of a standing crowd of police officers and their families. Throughout the weekend, Shevy mingled with police officers and was given many gifts. Little did Shevy know, that it was he who was passing out the gifts that weekend. Every officer who met Shevy walked away with a part of him. Shevy so touched the officers he met, that it was a given that the PoliceSoftball.com Sportsman of the Year award would be renamed in his honor after his passing. Shevy left this world on November 17, 2007, a mere one month after he threw a perfect strike to Keith Benjamin to open up the World Series ceremony.
Shevy made every one who met him realize the importance of dreams and to never take anything in this life for granted. To honor his memory, Shevy Wright will forever grace the PoliceSoftball.com Hall of Heroes.
