Introducing the New York Empire
BLUE CRAB CLASSIC RECAP
The Tournament kicked off Friday morning with pool play starting at 0800 hours. Friday we were blessed with a beautiful 80-degree day and a nice breeze coming off the bay. Saturday not looking too good on the weather side of things had all teams moving to get as much ball in as possible on Friday.
At the end of pool play in the major bracket the NY Empire was standing on top scoring 77 runs in 3 games followed by Outlaws, Suffolk, Nassau, and Max Elite. In the gold division the top seed NYPD Finest went 3-0 and was followed by MDF, Dayton Metro, MDs Finest, and PA enforcers. Although this tournament was only 10 teams there were some hard-fought games throughout the event. I will acknowledge the fact of several teams being very short-handed and your support for the event does not go unnoticed. It truly shows the support we have for one another.
Into elimination, in the gold bracket MDF would roll on through the bracket to be sitting in the king seat. While Maryland’s Finest took an Early loss to NYPD they would bounce back and go through NYPD in the loser final to make their way to meet MDF for a shot at the title. Maryland caught fire and ended up taking two games from MDF to become the GOLD CHAMPS. Maryland’s Finest named Evan Pettyjohn team MVP.
In the major bracket the NY Empire was met by the Outlaws in the winner bracket final. The Empire caught fire and remained hot, sending the outlaws to the loser’s bracket where Suffolk then edged out the Outlaws to get a shot at the Empire. In a game that looked to show Suffolk in control by double digits, everything changed in the 4th. The Empire chipped away and eventually took the lead in the bottom of the 6th and that would seal the deal. Making the Empire the MAJOR CHAMPS. The NY Empire named Ryan Theiss team MVP.
On Behalf of Scott and Myself we want to thank each and everyone for making the trip. This tournament will happen next year, so the east coast has a May event. The date may change slightly but it’ll be here! Last a special thanks to our sponsors.
