(Authored by Lonestar manager Danny Torres)

Dear Policesoftball.com,

I Would respectfully wish to nominate Nathan Skeen of the Lone Star Police Softball Club for the 2024 Garret Metal Detector Outstanding Police Officer of the Community.

Nathan Skeen has served the great state of Texas as a Texas Game Warden for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Division for the last twelve years. In that capacity he has been assigned to enforce the laws of the state of Texas focusing on those that pertain to our state’s game and wildlife as well as other laws he encounters in that endeavor. He has also been assigned several deployments along the south Texas Border, patrolling the Rio Grande as part of our nation’s efforts to curb illegal activity along the border.

Nathan has been an athlete all his life, first as a standout quarterback and catcher for his hometown White Oak Roughnecks High School. He then had a successful collegiate career at the University of Texa at Tyler it their baseball team. Nathan then earned the opportunity to play baseball at the professional level in the Independent Pecos League for the Alpine Cowboy before starting his career in law enforcement with Texas Parks and Wildlife.

At the University of Texas at Tyler Nathan played for the legendary baseball Coach James Villade. It is here and through his family that Nathan learned the virtues of service to others.

In that capacity Nathan has continuously given back to his community. In 2023 Nathan, following his passion for baseball began a project to build his own baseball field on his property. Nathan cleared the land on his own property at his own expense and slowly weekend by weekend, day off by day off, began his project using old pallets and discarded signs and after six months completed his dream of finishing his field.

Rather than monetize the field, Nathan has used the field to host kid camps and Blitz ball leagues for children in the community. Nathan has selflessly given his time of time and hosted over 125 kids, ages five and up. The league had fourteen teams this past year, including two all-girl teams. Nathan hosted fifty-five kids at his summer camp teaching the value of leadership, teamwork and fair play while providing an invaluable service to the community, allowing the parents free day care while they are at work. Nathan was recognized for his efforts by the local TV station KLTV as well as the inventors of Blitz ball who themselves travelled to White Oak Texas to see his field and play with the kids.

The Blitz ball founders have substantial following on YouTube and other social media platforms across the country. Nathan continues to host games, camps, clinics, birthday parties at his field, continuously giving back to the community he serves, being a positive role model and giving children a positive outlet.

Nathan is married to his lovely wife Shelby and has two young sons. Nathan has been a member of Lone Star Police Softball for 5 years.

I humbly nominate Nathan Skeen for 2024 Outstanding Police Officer of the community.
